La Noche en Blanco is a very special night in Madrid. There is a dizzying number of cultural events throughout the city, the Gran Via is closed, and the people of Madrid wander around the city and participate in whatever activities they may choose.
Do you want to go to the Prado for free? Do you want a Ballet lesson from the Cuban Dance group? Or would you prefer a tour of the Opera House, maybe the Real Madrid Stadium. Your choice.
My choice was to not participate in any of the indoor events, but rather to embrace the outdoor opportunities for the evening. It began in the plaza of Lavapies, where they were having a Zombie event, complete with FACE PAINTING.
That's right. If you wanted to look like a Zombie, you could. My friend got her face painted, they even included a raised gash.
The zombies then reunited in the plaza, for absolutely no good reason, to watch the "Thriller" video projected onto the wall of an old building. There was also a recreation of the dance by some MJ loving Spaniards.
Well the highlight of my evening, besides walking down the beautiful Gran Vía, which was filled with tall structures covered in white sheets, lit up by many different colored lights.

We also attended a Spanish- Angry -Teenaged- Rap-Off.
There were plenty of obscenities to go around.
The night was capped off with an extended-hours metro ride, complete with ice cream.
I love Madrid!
