Tom and Nance are HERE. They are here in fashion, loaded with red LLBean bags, Spain hats, and lots of love from the USA!
They arrived Saturday morning, hanging out in the airport and ready for the day. We get in the cab, make it to their hotel- complete with many Gracias-es and attempts to communicate in both English and Spanish. My parents are bilingual!
Saturday was a bit rainy, but it was full of surprises for the parents!
We first went to Circulo de Bellas Artes, a famous building in Madrid that is full of artists and intellectuals!
We had a Menu del Dia, and we talked it out about how Spainards eat their big meals in the afternoon, then eat lighter at night. Someone likened Tapas to McDonalds... FALSE.
We then walked ALL over the city, saw a protest for Socialism, then went to the Reina Sofia. Tom saw his Dali and Picasso paintings, and I imparted all my art history knowledge that I had.
We then went back to the Circulo to go up to the roof, where we got to see the protest from above. We also chatted with some friendly Spanish ladies, which led mom to bring up several shared "observations" she had that I had also mentioned in my blog.
We went and ate in a few more random cafes, which seemed to confuse them a bit. Dessert before Dinner? You don't do that normally do you???
Saturday ended late after a night in one of the Spanish mesons, where they both tried Sangria and Croquetas for the first time!
Sunday- We went to Segovia, took in all the history. They were both impressed with how the cars made it up and down the narrow streets. They both also liked the architecture and the old age of everything! We walked around a lot, Nance braved the cobblestones!
Sunday evening was Italian at our favorite Italian joint here in Madrid, complete with the waiter who continually makes bad jokes and......Lambrusco! Yup, Nance ventured away from White Zin (not like that is even an option here) and Tom tried it as well.
The evening was ended with our free shots of Limoncello, a stape of this restaurant. Now do you know why I like it?
Monday- I go to to school, they go to Toledo. Not fair! However, they were both raving about it lalala its so pretty. They came back and we met up later to walk around and go to a "semi-tourist" restaurant according to an anonymous someone.
Hard-Rock! Major problems there with the amount of ice (or lack there-of) in our drinks, but all was well! No ice in the tea, no milk either. Silly Spainards!
Today was another failed attempt at the Palacio Real. Yesterday the Queen was there, today it is still closed for Dia De Los Libros. A celebration of books! Fantastic for everyone except Tom and Nance. Yet they prevailed,they went to the park and had their first experience of Spainards getting it on in the middle of a public space.
Imagine their shock!
They also swung over to the Prado, where they became art experts after the audio guide. Totally worth the 7 euros! They are now seasoned art history experts, ask them anything! :)
The rest of the day included Bocadillos De Calamares, Vino de Verano, MANCHEGO (which Nance doesn't like??) and Vino Tinto. Yup, both of them drank that again.
They are so adventurous when they are overseas! Just look at them go.
This obviously is a very abbreviated version of their days here, look to Nance's photo of every street corner that we passed for further details. And no, I do NOT know what every pretty building in Madrid is. Sorry everyone!

WE (in CT -visiting) are glad to know that everyone is having fun! What do you mean she doesn't like Manchego? Please make them try bocadillo de tortilla espanola... hmmm what else? oh and churros y chocolate en la Plaza de Sta. Oh, hooray! Yesterday on Skype, we got to hear Jamie complaining! Whom woulda thunk it? Tm and Nnc(y) bilingual? Tapas and McDonald's? Um OK... By the way, Meg - Meg, when we were in Spain, we had our big meals as lunch, and a light meal for dinner (a chocolate bar and chips for dinner, anyone?. So this alleged semi - tourist restaurant was HARD - ROCK? Seriously, Spanish peeps... We got LOOK at the Hard - Rock at Yankees Stadium this week! Oh the Prado! I had the dry heaves (ick ick ick!) the day we went to the Prado, so I sat on a bench outside the bathroom. But all these old ladies and women with babies kept on staring at me! Some lady even tried to talk to me IN SPANISH (OK, maybe I could speak Spanish [kind of?] when I was her toddlers age [4])Whew! That's all! Wait!!!! Remember... me and my mom were in Spain at this time, so Meggy - megs, please take some well crafted pictures, and send them to me, don't have some guy delete them! Bye!
